The car culture in India has changed over the decades. We now see a lot more people going for performance mods along with cosmetic changes to make their cars look unique. While there is a demand for new and modern cars in the market, there are also a bunch of collectors and enthusiasts who like old classic and vintage cars just as much as the new ones. Many of them find these rare cars and often restore them. Here we have one such 1963 model Fiat 1100 Super Select sedan that has been beautifully restored.
The images and videos of this particular car have been posted by Jesbin on his Instagram profile. He is a car enthusiast, mechanical engineer, and entrepreneur. While going through his profile, we realized that he probably runs a body shop that deals with a variety of cars.
One of his recent projects was this Fiat 1100 Super Select. We got in touch with Jesbin, and he told us that he had bought this car from its previous owner in Kollam, Kerala. We couldn’t arrange the old pictures of the car, as that would have given us an idea of how the owner had kept it.
The Fiat 1100 seen here is actually a 1963 model sedan. This 62-year-old car has not lost its charm, and after buying it, Jesbin worked on it and made it his personal project. He told us that he had worked on restoring the car.
He said that he didn’t have to start from scratch but had spent a decent number of hours on almost every part of the vehicle to make sure it was in working condition. The Super Select is finished in an all-black shade, and we can also see the stock chrome front grille with the Fiat logo in the center.
The front bumper is also finished in chrome, and we can see the chrome beading that starts from the fender and goes all the way to the rear. The round headlamps with halogen bulbs have been retained for the retro appeal. The turn indicator bulbs are placed under the headlamps.
As part of the restoration, the owner has also gone for whitewall tyres with chrome hubcaps, which add to the car’s classic character. The rear design of the Fiat 1100 remains the same as the Padmini, which was a popular model on Indian roads.
The main attraction of this car is the rear-hinged front doors. This gives it a unique character, and the owner has retained the same. From the pictures and videos, it looks like the car gets an ice-grey or beige-themed cabin. It continues to offer a retro interior with a large and slim steering wheel finished in the same shade as the rest of the cabin.
The Fiat 1100 Super Select is powered by a 1100 cc engine that sends power to the rear wheels. The engine is mated to a 4-speed transmission. The finished product looks very clean, and the restoration work has been carried out in such a way that the car has not lost its original charm.
