Generally, when we think of car theft recovery in India, we think of police quietly busting the criminals. However, recently a video has gone viral online in which the AATS (Anti-Auto Theft Squad) Delhi, which is a specialised unit focused on combating vehicle theft, managed to arrest three car thieves in a very dramatic manner. The AATS had to set up a crane trap and then overpower these criminals to stop them from running away.
The video of this nail-biting scene of AATS authorities stopping and arresting the car thieves has been shared on YouTube by Arpan News on their channel. In this short clip, the CCTV footage of what happened during the entrapment of these car thieves has been shared. It can be noted that there is a vehicle-towing truck which has been parked on a single-lane road to stop the car with criminals.

Soon after this, a white-coloured Kia Seltos arrives at this point, after which the Seltos driver notes that there is only a small gap on the right side. The driver drives the vehicle into the gap in an attempt to get away from the AATS. However, as the gap was very small, the vehicle got stuck for a while between the tow truck and the divider on the right side.
We can then note that the rest of the AATS Delhi team arrives at the spot and places a Mahindra Bolero at the back, and the officers run to stop the Kia Seltos. However, after noting that the police authorities have arrived, the driver of the Kia Seltos reverses it. During this reversing, it can be seen that a number of officers started smashing the windows of this SUV in order to arrest these criminals.

The video then shows that despite the Bolero being at the rear, the criminals continued reversing the Seltos and hit the Bolero to make space for their escape. However, as there were other obstacles at the rear, they could not run away. We can also observe that finally, when the police authorities overpowered the criminals from the outside, the driver drove the Seltos onto the divider in an attempt to get away. However, during this, the criminals were caught.
Another video has been shared online in which the AATS Delhi chief explains the details of this case. He starts off by mentioning that they recently received a complaint of a high-end luxury vehicle getting stolen, after which they started analysing the CCTV footage of the area from where that vehicle was stolen. It was then noted that the criminals arrived in a white Kia Seltos SUV.

Following this, the same white Kia Seltos was kept under surveillance, and the intelligence agency reported that it was recently spotted in Vivek Nagar, Shahdara, Delhi. Soon after this, the AATS set up a trap to stop these criminals. The AATS Delhi chief highlighted that these criminals, with the intention of running over the authorities, started reversing and driving off their SUV.
As a result of this, two AATS officers were also injured. Soon after, the chief mentioned that they managed to arrest three criminals: Akil Sanaf Islamuddin, aged 40, from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, who already has 27 criminal cases filed against him; the second person arrested was Mashroor Sanaf Uddin Yakub, aged 56, from Sultanpur, who has 17 cases against him; and lastly, Asif Sanaf Nizamuddin, aged 42, from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, who has been arrested two times before.
