Buying a German luxury sedan from brands like Audi, BMW, or Mercedes-Benz is a dream for a lot of men in India. Every year, a lot of people also manage to achieve this dream. However, for some, this dream comes to an end after realizing that they might have met their hero, but it's not actually worth it. Recently, one such Audi A4 owner shared his story of why he had to sell his beloved Audi A4 luxury sedan and buy a brand-new Mahindra Thar ROXX.

This particular story of why he had to sell his Audi A4 and buy a Mahindra Thar ROXX has been shared on Reddit. It starts off with the owner mentioning that he had to switch from his Audi A4 40 TFSI to a Thar ROXX because of a few practical reasons which many people ignore while buying such luxury cars. The first of these reasons was that even though he loved the performance and luxury of his Audi, he had to sell it because it started giving him anxiety.

As per the owner, he would be constantly anxious about the low ground clearance of the Audi over poor roads. He added that, on top of it, the maintenance costs and practicality also pushed him to step away from the Audi. In the post, the owner stated that he lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and every day he has to drive 75+ km, out of which 60 percent is on highways and the remaining in the city.
Now, he bought the Audi A4 40 TFSI back in November 2024 and owned it till April 2026. In this span of ownership, he managed to cover a distance of 35,000 km in 17 months. He highlighted that the Audi was smooth and very refined, and its 2.0-litre TFSI engine with the 7-speed DSG gearbox provided an exhilarating driving experience. Also, its high-speed stability and composure were very impressive.

The owner, in his post, explained that even though the Audi was very fun to drive, he was having a few issues with the vehicle. These included the horn not working on many occasions (fixed under warranty), and due to the low ground clearance, it would scrape at his office’s entry very frequently. He was also facing difficulty with potholes, speed breakers, and flooded roads.
All of these issues, when combined with the emotional and financial pressure of paying EMIs and maintenance, gave the owner anxiety. Also, he added that the car would need a lot of care, which he did not want to deal with for a long time. As a result, he realized that his purchase was very emotional and not practical. Due to this, he came to the conclusion of buying a vehicle which he could drive anywhere.
During the purchase decision, the owner then mentioned that he shortlisted the Kia Seltos (did not buy because there was already one in the family), Hyundai Creta (rejected due to design dislike), Renault Duster (interior design concerns and long-term reliability), Volkswagen Taigun (disappointing interior), and VinFast VF7 (booked but cancelled due to EV charging infrastructure issues).

Finally, one day, one of his friends who bought a Mahindra Thar ROXX Star Edition let him experience it. After which, to be sure, he had a weekend test drive with the 4x2 diesel Thar ROXX. After this, he highlighted that compared to the three-door model, which had an extremely rough and bouncy ride, the Thar ROXX felt a lot more refined, quieter, and usable on a day-to-day basis.
At last, he decided to buy the Thar ROXX and went with the AX7L diesel 4x4 variant, finished in white. As for the ownership review, he highlighted that the SUV handles city traffic, highways, and rough roads effortlessly. Also, it offers a strong road presence and feels like a tank.
Compared to the Audi, he sits a lot higher and has better visibility. He added that the ride is also amazing, as it absorbs all the bad parts of the roads and can cruise very comfortably at 100 to 110 kmph on highways. Overall, the owner explains that he is thoroughly enjoying his purchase.
