The Confident Group founder and Chairman, Dr. C.J. Roy, who recently made it to the headlines for buying back his first car, the Maruti 800, has died by suicide at his office in Bengaluru. As per reports, he shot himself with a pistol inside his office chamber at the Confident Group office near Richmond Circle. Unfortunately, even after rushing him to the hospital, he succumbed to his gunshot wound.
It has been reported that during an ongoing Income Tax (IT) raid at the Confident Group office, while his financial documents were being examined, the billionaire real estate mogul shot himself inside his chamber in the presence of Income Tax officials. He sustained an injury to the chest, and despite IT officials taking him to Narayana Hospital in HSR Layout, he could not be saved.
Sources have highlighted that the IT department had been conducting raids at multiple locations related to the Confident Group and Dr. C.J. Roy, and due to the continued scrutiny, he came under extreme psychological pressure. Following the incident at the office, Income Tax officials halted the raid, seized all the documents, and transported them to their headquarters.
Back in November 2025, we featured Dr. C.J. Roy here on Cartoq. At the time, the billionaire made it to the headlines because he shared a post in which he revealed that he managed to track and buy back his first car, a 1994 Maruti 800. He bought this car back in 1994 for Rs 1.10 lakh at the age of 25.
In his post, he had stated that he could have bought two acres of land for the same price in Sarjapur. However, instead, he went with the car, which he eventually sold in 1997, soon after which he upgraded to the Maruti Esteem sedan. Finally, 27 years later, he decided to trace and buy back the same Maruti 800.
To make his search simpler, he publicly announced that the person who finds his car would be rewarded Rs 10 lakh. He highlighted that the registration number of his first car was CKJ 3637, following which his appeal on social media went viral and his car was found. It was abandoned by the person who bought it last and was in a non-running condition.
Despite this, he paid Rs 10 lakh for his first car and described it as his most special car and his first real achievement in life. Dr. C.J. Roy, at the time, also mentioned that buying a car is good, but people should also buy land because land becomes family wealth.
Dr. C.J. Roy also has a residence in Dubai, where he has a collection of some of the most luxurious and expensive hypercars and luxury cars. His collection consists of a Bugatti Veyron, which costs Rs 16 crore; a Koenigsegg Agera valued at Rs 12 crore; multiple Ferraris, including the 458 Italia, SF90 priced at Rs 7.5 crore, and the 812 Superfast; a McLaren 720S; a Lamborghini Huracan; and a Lamborghini Aventador.

The billionaire also recently bought his 12th Rolls-Royce in Bangalore. He chose a used Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII valued at Rs 12 crore from the popular used car dealership Big Boy Toyz. His other Rolls-Royce cars include a Ghost, a Wraith, a Spectre, and a Cullinan.
