VIP culture in India is a pain. We often see politicians moving around in convoys for one reason or another. Every time such a convoy passes, the general public on the road is often asked to stop and suffer due to security reasons. Vehicles in these convoys are usually driven at high speeds, and we have seen instances where they have caused accidents and inconvenience to others as well.
A video from Delhi has now gone viral on the internet, showing a group of young supporters of Delhi CM Rekha Gupta travelling in illegally modified vehicles and standing out of sunroofs as part of a convoy.
The video was shared by Ratan Dhillon on his X profile with the caption:
“Roads blocked, people popping out of windows and sunroofs, tinted glasses, modified Thars, and all that drama - this isn’t the convoy of a university president, this is the convoy of the CM of Delhi. What a fall in standards. A little class wouldn’t hurt, CM saab! ?? #IncredibleIndia”
In the video, we see several private vehicles owned by political party supporters as part of the convoy. SUVs such as the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Thar, MG Gloster, Toyota Innova Hycross, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, and MG Hector can be seen in the group.

One common factor among all these SUVs is that people were hanging out of either the windows or the sunroofs. Party flags were mounted on the vehicles, and tinted windows can also be seen on some of them.
People standing out of the windows and sunroofs were recording videos, likely to post them on social media. The post mentions that these vehicles were part of the CM’s convoy and that Rekha Gupta’s vehicle was also present in the group.
We can also see a Maruti Gypsy belonging to the Delhi Police in front of an MG Gloster and an Innova Crysta. It is assumed that the CM was travelling in one of those vehicles. The reason this video went viral is primarily due to the manner in which the party supporters chose to welcome the minister.
Apart from the tinted windows, many of these vehicles were heavily modified with large aftermarket alloy wheels. The reason for pointing this out is that modifying vehicles in any manner is illegal in India. We have seen several videos in the past where police have stopped and fined people for using vehicles with illegal modifications.
In this case, however, the police were providing security to those supporting the political leader. The cops not only allowed such stunts but also caused inconvenience to other road users who pay taxes as well. The comment section under the video clearly shows how furious people are about this VIP culture.
Some of the comments read: “From the blue WagonR to this, Delhi has come a long way in a short time.” “Hello @dtptraffic @CMODelhi @BJP4Delhi - whilst you make life a living hell for taxpayers, this goon mela gets a free pass? Shameful.” “Politics has degenerated from governing with dignity and serving citizens to outright hooliganism. Politicians now flex power through cheap stunts and theatrics instead of integrity.” And many more along similar lines.
