In the last few months, ever since the conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States of America has increased, the government has been pushing for more EV adoption. Well, now, setting an example for the rest to follow, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has now been spotted getting driven around in an electric vehicle. Recently, CM Rekha Gupta was seen in her new MG Windsor EV. She has also reduced the size of her convoy by 60 percent to help save fuel.
The video showing Delhi CM Rekha Gupta in her new MG Windsor EV has been shared on YouTube by CNN News on their channel. In this short video, we can note that Rekha Gupta was sitting in the front passenger seat of her new white-colored MG Windsor EV and was talking to another woman standing outside. Following this, the video then shows the front fascia of her vehicle. She was also seen posing for a selfie with a young man.
It can be noted that the Delhi chief minister has not opted for the bigger battery pack version of the Windsor Pro. Instead, she has opted for the standard Windsor EV, which comes equipped with the smaller 38 kWh battery pack. It offers a claimed range of 331 km. The company, as stated, also offers a bigger 52.9 kWh battery pack, which offers a range of 449 km on a single full charge.

The Windsor EV is currently one of the most popular electric cars in the country, and it is the best-selling vehicle in MG India's portfolio. Last month, in May, MG sold 2,032 units of the Windsor EV, which is the lowest in the last few months. However, prior to that, in April, it sold 3,296 units. And in March, it sold 4,530 units, and in February, it sold 2,599 units.
MG offers the Windsor EV with a starting price of Rs 14.09 lakh, and from there, it goes all the way up to Rs 18.59 lakh for the Pro variant. However, these are the prices of this EV with the battery included. The company also offers the Windsor EV with the BaaS (Battery as a Service) program as well. Its BaaS pricing starts at Rs 9.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.60 lakh.
Just a few weeks ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the country needs to save fuel and urged ministers to reduce the size of their convoys. Recently, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, in order to set an example, reduced the size of her convoy by 60 percent. Earlier, the convoy used to comprise 10 cars. However, there are only 4 cars in her convoy now.

Of these four cars, two are electric and two are ICE. Apart from reducing the size of her convoy, she has also directed ministers and other government officials to prioritize electric vehicles, metro services, and public transportation. She stated that these modes should be preferred for official government work wherever feasible.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has reduced the size of his convoy and has started using an electric vehicle. He also uses the city's metro as well. Sandhu stated that the Delhi Metro has an efficient and accessible transportation system. According to him, the metro is one of the most efficient ways to navigate Delhi. He also highlighted that using public transport contributes to a more sustainable environment.

Recently, CM Rekha Gupta also introduced the Delhi EV Policy 2.0 (2026–2030) and stated that with this new EV policy, the government aims to increase the speed of the adoption of electric vehicles in the national capital. This will take place with the help of a combination of incentives, tax exemptions, and phased restrictions on internal combustion engine vehicles.
The draft policy proposes a 100 percent waiver of road tax and registration fees for EVs until March 2030. It will also offer purchase incentives for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and electric cars linked to the scrapping of older, more polluting vehicles.
The policy has also highlighted a clear transition roadmap towards electric mobility. It states that the registration of new petrol-powered two-wheelers will be banned from April 1, 2028. Meanwhile, electric three-wheelers will become mandatory from January 1, 2027. Cab aggregators and commercial operators will also be prohibited from adding new petrol or diesel two-wheelers and light goods vehicles to their fleets from January 1, 2026.
