The Hyundai Creta is extremely popular among mid-size SUV buyers in India. It is rare to find this vehicle in government and state roles. Tamil Nadu has, however, had it as an integral part of various enforcement systems for years. In the latest turn of events, the all-new Creta has joined the state’s ‘Pink Patrol’ as the official patrol vehicle. Videos showing at least 10 freshly inducted Cretas wearing the ‘Pink Patrol’ livery have now surfaced online.
This video is from Chennai. In it, we can see these Cretas parked by the road and later rolling down the streets. It seems to have been captured soon after the department received these vehicles from the manufacturer. Since they belong to the Pink Patrol, these vehicles get a Pink livery. The base paint seems to be White. Multiple ‘PINK PATROL’ letterings can be found. The roof also has cop-spec strobe lights.

The new Creta offers three engine options- 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5 turbocharged petrol, and 1.5 turbocharged diesel. Since this is a cop car, it most likely has a diesel engine. These seem to be higher variants, and not base-spec ones. This isn’t the first time that we see Tamil Nadu police department opting for higher-spec variants. The 25 Cretas that were inducted as patrol vehicles in January 2024 were higher variants as well.

As you’d know by now, Pink Patrol is a women-led police patrol initiative aimed at curbing eve-teasing and various other harassment against women and kids. The newest iteration of it was launched in Nilgiris this October, by Chief Minister MK Stalin. It remains to be seen which area or district the newly-inducted Creta SUVs would be deployed in. These vehicles are expected to have an all-women crew.
In addition to these, the Tamil Nadu Pink patrol fleet is known to have models like Toyota Etios, Maruti Omni, Mahindra Bolero, and Maruti Ertiga in it.

While ‘Pink Patrol’ is a broader, nationwide initiative, the South Indian state even has its own women-led police and helpline called the ‘Amma Patrol’. This force relies on Toyota Innova Crystas for commuting and is known to have played a key role in improving the safety of women and children here, in recent years.
In January 2024, we saw the state’s police department inducting a handful of popular models into its fleet. These included the Innova Crysta, Mahindra Bolero, and 25 units of the pre-facelift second-generation Hyundai Creta. Clearly, all of these were hot-selling models in their respective segments. These were flagged off by the Chief Minister himself. Videos of this were later shared online.

The base paint of these SUVs was White. Cars wearing different liveries can be seen in the video. One of them had a bold Matte Black wrap on its sides and belonged to the Chennai police department. Another had bold Blue and Red stripes and was fitted with side steps. In addition to these, two more types of liveries can be seen in the video. All these vehicles were fitted with police strobe lights and sirens.
The Pink Patrol has received the newest Creta, which is in fact, the facelifted second generation. The one inducted as the cop car in 2024, however, is the pre-facelift model. The interesting part here is that both these use the same diesel engine- the 1.5L turbocharged CRDi unit making 115hp and 250Nm. Indians love it for its frugal nature and reliability.
