The South Korean automotive giant Kia India earlier this year, in July, launched the Carens Clavis EV. It is the brand's first made-in-India electric vehicle, and recently the senior officials of Kia presented it to the Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs of India, Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, at his residence in New Delhi. Prior to him, the Kia Carens Clavis EV was shown to the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Kia India's Senior VP, Sales and Marketing, along with other senior Kia India officials, showed the Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, the Carens Clavis EV. It is the company's first electric MPV in India. It is also the brand's first electric vehicle which is produced in India. The minister posed in front of the Carens Clavis EV with Kia officials.

Being an electric vehicle which promotes the shift to renewable energies, the Kia Carens Clavis EV’s showcase to the minister was very important. In addition to Joshi, a few months ago, Kia officials also showed this EV seven-seater to H.D. Kumarswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel. Bhimsen Gulabani, VP Customer Experience, and Atul Sold, along with other officials, were present at Kumarswamy’s residence.

As mentioned, the Carens Clavis EV is the first made-in-India Kia electric vehicle. This seven-seater electric MPV starts at Rs 17.99 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 24.49 lakh. In terms of the overall design, it looks similar to the Carens Clavis; however, it gets a blanked-off grille which is specific to it. Other highlights include triangular LED headlights and angular LED DRLs.

It also comes equipped with low-mounted fog lights, an integrated skid plate, and active air flaps at the front. On the side profile, the Kia Carens Clavis EV gets dual-tone aero-efficient alloy wheels measuring 17-inch. As for the rear, it gets LED taillights with a connecting light bar in the middle. Overall, it looks very modern and premium.

On the inside, Kia has given it almost the same dashboard as the Carens Clavis ICE model. It gets two 12.3-inch screens, of which the one in the middle is the touchscreen infotainment system and the one on the right is the digital instrument gauge cluster. It also gets a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an air purifier, and an 8-speaker BOSE premium audio system.

Other notable highlights of the Kia Carens Clavis EV include Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-To-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities. Now coming to the battery pack options, the Clavis EV gets 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh options. The 51.4 kWh option offers a range of 490 Km. Meanwhile, the smaller 42 kWh offers 404 km of range.

As for the electric motor, it gets a front axle-mounted motor which is capable of producing 171 PS and 255 Nm of torque. It is a front-wheel-drive EV and can reach from 0-100 kmph in just 8.5 seconds. Additionally, it also gets four regenerative braking levels to increase the range.
