In the past, we have come across many Do It Yourself (DIY) car projects. We have seen many young enthusiasts handcraft supercar replicas. Here’s one such project. A 27-year old man from Kerala’s Kannur has made a replica of a Lamborghini Aventador. In a video shared by Manorama Online, we get to have a closer look at this project.
Sarin, a resident of Kannur, runs a tattoo studio. He unveiled the finished project- a Lamborghini Aventador replica, in February this year, at Muzhappilangad beach. Videos and images of the vehicle soon went viral.
It took Sarin more than a year to complete the project. He used to work on the project after his regular working hours. He worked on the car in the evenings and at night. The work began in January 2025, and was completed by January 2026.

The donor car for this project is an old Tata Nano, which Sarin procured from the scrap market. It formed the ideal base for the project, because of its rear-engine layout. Parts of the chassis have been retained on the project car. The structure has been modified extensively.
Sarin says that transforming a Nano to Aventador look-alike has been quite challenging. The Nano has a tallboy design and 180mm ground clearance. Converting it to a wide, low-slung car was quite difficult. He had to do multiple iterations and experiments before arriving at the final body design.
Sarin has also used parts and components from multiple mass-market cars in the project. The wheels are from Maruti Swift/ Baleno. These use knuckles sourced from Maruti Alto. The car’s body is made of fiber. The DRLs have been made out of acrylic sheet, while the headlamps use Baleno-sourced projectors. Even the front windshield and windows are made of acrylic sheets. The mirrors were 3D-printed by one of his friends.

The design of the rear end also resembles the actual car. In addition to sleek tail lamps with arrow-shaped elements, it even has a large rear spoiler made of wood and acrylic sheet. The replica even has operational scissor doors. The iconic air vents near the doors have also been recreated.
The dashboard, and steering wheel are from a Honda City. The central tunnel and seats have been handcrafted. It needs to be mentioned that the focus of this project is the exterior design. The attention to detail inside is significantly lower than that on the outside.

Sarin used to make miniature models in the past. The Aventador replica is his first attempt at building a full-size replica. He says he had no formal training in automobile engineering or fabrication. He learnt things by doing them, and did almost all works of the project car himself- from fabrication to welding and painting.
The initial idea was to create a small model of the Aventador at home. It eventually grew into a full-size replica. Sarin says he taught himself skills like welding and spray painting for the project. Fabrication took several attempts for successful completion. The project car uses Nano’s wiring and electrical hardware. Sarin has been so involved in this project that he says he can now debug any possible error or issue in the vehicle.
This replica shows Sarin’s craftsmanship. He has successfully changed a Nano into a Lamborghini look-alike with great attention to detail. However, this build is not road-legal. It can only be used as a show car, and in private premises. Even for shows, it will have to be transported to the venue on flatbeds. This replica uses the Nano’s engine without any notable upgrades.
