Drag races and tug-of-war events are extremely popular on the internet, and we have seen several videos where people showcase the power of their bikes and cars. They compete with vehicles from their own segment and others to show how superior their machine is compared to the rest. Here, we have one such video where a Toyota Fortuner SUV is seen competing against a Land Rover Defender 110 SUV in a tug-of-war.
The video has been shared by Crazy XYZ on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger and his friends conduct an experiment to actually test the power of their SUVs. The Toyota Fortuner SUV seen here is powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine paired with an automatic transmission.
The Land Rover Defender, on the other hand, is the petrol version. The petrol SUV uses a 2.0-litre P300 engine that generates 296 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. It is available with an automatic transmission, and power is sent to all four wheels.
The Fortuner, on the other hand, uses a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 201 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. The vlogger and his friends placed their bets on the Fortuner because they believed the bigger engine would help it in the tug-of-war and that it would pull the Defender easily since it generates more torque.

They started with a drag race on a ground with loose dirt. In the first round itself, the Land Rover showcased its power and won the race. The vlogger intentionally didn’t push the Defender in the second round and let the Fortuner win.
In the next round, both SUVs competed against each other in the tug-of-war. Both vehicles were tied together using a very thick rope. Once they were in position and given the cue, they started pulling each other.
The Land Rover Defender, driven by the vlogger, was pulling the Fortuner without any issue. However, because the experiment was being conducted on loose mud, the rear tyres of the Fortuner were struggling for grip and were digging holes in the ground.
When they realised that both SUVs were not making any progress, they moved to a different location - a concrete road with no traffic. Both SUVs were aligned and once again tied with the same rope. As expected, the Toyota Fortuner was struggling, and the Land Rover Defender slowly pulled the Fortuner along with it.
The reason the Defender managed to do this was due to two main factors. First, despite having a smaller-capacity engine compared to the Fortuner, it generated more power, which helped in the tug-of-war. The second factor was the drivetrain. The Defender comes with an AWD or 4x4 system as standard, while the Fortuner seen here is the 2WD or RWD version. That is why the Fortuner was struggling for grip and couldn’t pull the Defender despite its best efforts.
