In the last one decade, car culture in India has grown significantly. We have seen many people buy expensive cars, and many of these vehicles are worth crores. No matter how expensive the cars are, they are often welcomed into the family in typical Indian style with rituals and poojas. This is often done because we consider cars to be a part of our family. A video from Bengaluru has been going viral online where a Rolls-Royce Cullinan worth over ₹10 crore has a lemon and chilli protection worth ₹10 hanging from the front bumper.
The video has been shared by Engines and Emotions on their Instagram page. In this video, we see a Rolls-Royce Cullinan parked on the side of the road. As expected, this multi-crore SUV also has a fancy number plate. However, what grabbed our attention was not the number plate but something hanging under it.
We see a string hanging with a couple of green chillies and a lemon on it. This “nimbu mirchi” on a string is actually an Indian tradition, and we have seen many people follow it at their homes. If you are wondering what the idea behind hanging lemon and chillies on a car is, let us explain.
This is an Indian tradition that is often followed to protect a house or vehicle from the evil eye and misfortune. The practice acts as a “shield,” where the sour lemon and hot chillies are believed to absorb negative energy or jealous vibes before they enter a space. The owner of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan might have bought the car recently, and in order to protect the vehicle from any kind of evil eye or damage, he or she might have decided to hang the lemon and chilli.

This is not the first time we have come across a video like this on the internet. In fact, it is not the first Rolls-Royce Cullinan to get this protection shield.
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn also owns a Rolls-Royce Cullinan along with several other luxury cars and follows this nimbu mirchi tradition for his vehicles. He has been seen arriving in this car with lemon and chillies hanging below the number plate on multiple occasions.
Driving on Indian roads is always a challenge, and we won’t blame the owners or drivers of these expensive cars for hanging lemon and chillies on their vehicles, as you may need every bit of luck on our roads to ensure that you drive the car back into the garage without any damage every day.
Coming to the car itself, the Rolls-Royce seen here in the video is the Cullinan SUV. It is the first and only SUV from the British luxury car manufacturer. The SUV is available with a wide range of customisation options.
Depending on the level of customisation, the price of the SUV increases significantly. We assume that the owner has opted for several customisations, which makes it difficult to determine the exact on-road cost of this particular vehicle.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine paired with an automatic transmission, with power sent to all four wheels. The SUV produces 571 PS and 850 Nm of peak torque. The price of a standard Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II starts at ₹10.50 crore (ex-showroom), and customisations can push the price even higher.
