Indian roads are full of surprises, and driving on them is a task in itself. We have stray dogs, cattle, people driving on the wrong side, and even jaywalkers posing a threat to road users. We have seen several incidents where these surprises have caused accidents on the road. Apart from the above-mentioned things, speed breakers - especially unscientific ones - also cause inconvenience and accidents. Here we have one such video where a woman narrowly escapes crashing over a massive unmarked speed breaker.
The video has been shared by Nagpur Wow on their Instagram page. The caption of the video mentions that authorities have recently built a new speed breaker at the start of the Burdi flyover on both sides. As this is a new speed breaker, not many people are aware of it, and this has been causing inconvenience to many road users.
In this video, we see a massive speed breaker and a couple of smaller ones built just before the flyover. A woman, completely unaware of this new construction, can be seen approaching at a good speed. She spots the speed breaker at the last moment, but by then it is too late. She rides the scooter over the speed breaker.
We see her scooter go airborne for a few seconds. The scooter lands back on the road, and we still see the woman riding the scooter, trying to gain control. She puts her foot down as she is about to fall in the middle of the road. She almost fell but managed to escape the crash.
Thankfully, there was no other vehicle behind her. If there had been one, the driver or rider would have rear-ended the scooter, as they too wouldn’t have had enough time to respond in such a situation.
If you watch the video, it’s not just this woman - almost everyone passing through this road was crashing into the speed breaker. The main reason for all these crashes was the absence of proper markings.
The speed breakers are new, and the concerned authorities thought it would be a great idea to leave them unmarked. If they had marked the breakers properly, people who take this road to work or home every day would have noticed the markings and proceeded with caution.
In fact, not only did they fail to mark the speed breaker, but they also built a bone-breaking, unscientific hump in the middle of nowhere. The actual reason why they built a speed breaker just before a flyover is not known, but it surely is going to be a reason for congestion on this particular road from now on.
Many speed breakers in India are built in such a way that low-slung cars like sedans and hatchbacks often have difficulty crossing them. The underbody gets scraped against the hump, damaging the car. In the past, we have even seen images of speed breakers where SUVs like the Kia Seltos have got beached. We hope authorities soon come across this video from Nagpur and take the necessary action to fix the issue and avoid any major accidents
