MG Motor India launched the M9 electric luxury MPV in July this year. It has an ex-showroom price of Rs 69.9 lakh. In the months that followed, we saw this luxury EV reach the garages of many prominent figures and celebrities. Hema Malini and Karan Johar now have the M9 in their respective garages. Ace Indian singer, composer, and music director Shankar Mahadevan is the latest to join the M9 Club. Pictures of him taking delivery of the luxury electric MPV have now surfaced.
A video shared by ViralBhayani shows Shankar Mahadevan taking delivery of the M9 together with his family. He has chosen ‘Metal Black’ as the colour for his ride. MG offers three colour choices on the M9- Metal Black, Pearl White, and Concrete Grey. White and Grey come with Black roofs.

In the video, we see the musician unveiling the vehicle with his family and experiencing it before driving out. The family seems very happy about the purchase.

The M9 comes in just a single, fully-loaded variant, called the ‘Presidential Limousine’. It is brought to India as SKD (Semi Knock Down) imports and is retailed through the newly established ‘MG Select’ retailer network. These showrooms provide a more premium purchase experience compared to regular MG dealerships. The video here shows just the same.
In India, the most preferred luxury MPVs among celebrities and public figures are the Toyota Vellfire and its exorbitantly priced cousin- the Lexus LM. The new Kia Carnival isn’t as popular as the Vellfire among celebs. Recent analytics show that there is a clear demand for this bodystyle among these people. The M9 is now trying to grab its share of this pie. It is, interestingly, the only electric offering in this segment!

The M9 is huge! It has a wheelbase of 3,200 mm and an overall length of over 5.2 meters! The length, if you see, is more than that of the Carnival and the Vellfire. The M9 has a boxy silhouette and offers plenty of room inside. Key exterior highlights include LED DRLs, projector LED headlamps, a closed-off EV grille, and connected LED tail lamps. The large glass area lets in ample light.
The cabin is finished in a dual-tone Cognac-Black colour scheme, had a Grey roof liner, and several premium trims and accents ( brushed Aluminum, faux wood, and more!). It gets two captain chairs in the second row, which offer 16-way electric adjustments, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The second row can, in fact, be reclined to a near-flat state! These feature ottoman and plush cushioning as well. Screens are used to control various features like ambient lighting and power windows.

The feature list on MG M9 includes a 12-speaker JBL sound system, dedicated infotainment screens for rear occupants, three-zone climate control, a split-sunroof, an all-digital instrument cluster, 12.23-inch central infotainment touchscreen, a wireless smartphone charger, a 360-degree camera, level 2 ADAS, and more.

The M9 comes with a 90kWh battery pack and a single-motor setup that makes 245 PS and 350 Nm. This battery pack is claimed to have a range of 548 km per charge. The MPV also comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging.
The M9 is well-kitted on the safety front. It comes with seven airbags and several other safety features, and even scored a full five-star safety rating in Australian NCAP’s crash tests. It scored 93% in Adult Occupant protection, which was then the highest score to be achieved by an MPV!
