Complying with road, lane, and traffic rules is crucial in ensuring road safety. It also ensures the smooth flow of traffic around. We often come across incidents in which the rich and the powerful break these and get away with it. Politicians committing such violations often make headlines. The latest such case is from Tamil Nadu. Mayiladuthurai MLA S Rajkumar allegedly parked his Toyota Fortuner in a way that obstructed the traffic around. This soon came to the notice of the traffic police, who wheel-locked the SUV.
This incident took place in Chennai’s Anna Salai on October 18th. According to reports, the Fortuner was seen parked near the Spencers Plaza mall in a way that it obstructed traffic and thus caused inconvenience to people around. Traffic constable Prabhakaran, who was on duty there, soon arrived at the scene and questioned the act. He asked the MLA to move the vehicle.
The SUV, a White Fortuner with registration plates that read ‘ TN 82 AK 5555’, also had ‘MLA’ stickers on the front windshield. As the situation escalated, more cops reportedly joined the constable, and together, they locked the Fortuner’s wheels.

The policeman’s action enraged the Congress MLA. Soon, an argument began between the two. Some reports also state that the politician and his supporters assaulted the policeman physically. He allegedly slapped the cop on his cheeks.
DT Next reports the MLA to have denied this, saying that he went to the policeman, sitting inside the tow vehicle. “How can I assault a person sitting in a truck?"- he asked. The politician claims to have identified himself before the cop and further asked the policeman’s name. The cop, then refused to reveal the same, following which the MLA reportedly moved his raincoat to read the name badge.
The police have now initiated a probe into this incident. CCTV footage from the place will be reviewed and analysed to learn what really happened and determine who was at fault. According to reports, the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner visited the spot as part of the investigation.
According to a report in The Hindu, the Anna Salai police have filed a case against the MLA for verbally abusing and assaulting the policeman.
In one of our previous stories, we talked about how a BJP lawmaker's son’s Mahindra Scorpio Classic blocked the traffic on a busy road in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Traffic Constable SP Singh soon interfered and questioned the act. He was asked to move the SUV from the middle of the road. According to reports, the politician’s son refused to identify himself iniitially and allegedly told the cop to ‘get lost’.
Unlike what he had expected, the cop reacted strongly saying "You are maligning your father's reputation." The situation escalated and a heated argument unfolded between the two.

A video of this was later shared online. Later in the clip, we even hear the cop saying ‘I am more educated than you. I know how to talk. You are misusing power.’ This remark got the politician’s son frustrated. This incident was a clear case of egos at play, even though the cop was right here.
The vehicle in this case was a White Scorpio Classic, registered in Aligarh. Like the Fortuner in this case, even the Mahindra had a ‘Vidhayak’ sticker on it. Additionally, it even had a BJP flag. The MLC’s son even had a gunner with him at the time of this incident.
