People think that if they have an SUV, it is good enough to drive through anything. Unfortunately, this cannot be any further from the truth, especially when we are talking about driving on snowy mountain roads. Recently, a video from Manali, Himachal Pradesh, has gone viral in which a Tata Harrier.ev, a Mahindra Bolero, and other cars were seen crashing into each other. Also, a Toyota Fortuner and a Mahindra Scorpio-N were seen on the edge of cliffs.
This nerve-racking video showing the condition of roads and cars has been shared on Instagram by The Punky on their page. It starts off with a view of a Mahindra Bolero SUV sliding down a slope and crashing into a white-colored Tata Harrier.ev. We can note that the driver tried to counter-steer; however, his efforts were futile.
Soon after this, the clip shows another shocking visual. This time around, a Toyota Fortuner was seen on the edge of a cliff in a completely tilted position. We can note that the rear right wheel of this SUV was in the air, and the vehicle seemed like it was about to fall off. After this, we can observe the same Harrier.ev as before trying to drive down the slope.

This time around, it was surrounded by a ton of people who were trying to help the vehicle. However, it still started sliding downwards on the slope. Next up, the video shows another terrifying scene where a black Mahindra Scorpio-N was also seen at the edge of a cliff. Thankfully, it was in a slightly better position than the Fortuner seen before.
Moving on, the video continues to show a group of people trying to help a Hyundai Xcent slowly go down the curvy mountain road. Towards the end, we can note that amid this snowstorm, a Maruti Suzuki 800 hatchback was driving on a slushy road with ease, like it’s nothing.

The first and best thing one can do to avoid hanging on the edge of a cliff is to NOT drive on roads filled with snow. Now, some people like to argue that, “We have a 4X4 SUV, so we can drive wherever we want.” Well, the answer to that is that having a 4X4 system in your SUV does not make you immune to the dangers of a snowy road or a road with black ice.
Having a 4X4 system alone is not enough. The most important thing you need is snow chains wrapped around the tyres of your 4X4 SUV. Snow chains help in creating traction on icy and snowy roads where normal tyres cannot maintain enough grip. Additionally, it has to be noted that even with a fully equipped and snow-ready vehicle, there is no guarantee that one can drive through safely without getting stuck.

If the driver is inexperienced in driving in such conditions, things can get ugly very quickly. Lastly, a lot of the time people drive on roads with black ice. For those who may not be aware, black ice is a thin layer of ice on the road when temperatures hover around the freezing point.
This is one of the most dangerous surfaces to drive on, as vehicles are unable to form a good grip on the road, which causes them to slip. So, if you are someone who knows that they don’t have the right vehicle, the right set of equipment, and no experience to drive on such roads, it is best to avoid driving and stay where you are.
