Tata Motors started commencing deliveries of the new Sierra in mid-January. The SUV has generated immense interest among buyers. Now, a YouTube channel has shared a detailed video of a customer sharing his experience with the newly-bought Sierra Roq edition. The customer here already owns a Mahindra Scorpio-N diesel and the Sierra appears to be his second car.
This Sierra is finished in the Munnar Mist colour scheme. The owner has also installed the ‘ROQ edition’ package. This accessory range costs Rs 41,000. It adds a host of appliques and cosmetic enhancements to the SUV. The owner has driven this Sierra for just around 250 km. It may thus be too early to do a ‘full-fledged ownership review’. Sonu, the owner, already owns a Mahindra Scorpio-N.
When he was out in the market for a new mid-size SUV, he had a bunch of interesting options- the new Seltos, Creta and even the bigger Mahindra XUV 7XO, which recently underwent a major ovehaul. He had also booked the 7XO, but ended up buying the new Sierra- the top-spec diesel. The on-road price he paid was around Rs 25 lakh. This includes the ROQ package.

Sonu liked the Sierra’s design and interior. He was, in fact, particular about buying something that looks good. Also, he loved the fact that it is the widest car in the C-segment. (Keep in mind that the XUV 7XO is a D-segment car.) He also loves the equipment array on offer on the Sierra, especially the sunroof.
The host then shows a complete video walkaround of this Sierra. We can see the trims and appliques that come as part of the Roq Edition package at various places. The owner hasn’t opted for any other accessories.

Sonu then talks about the Sierra’s engine and opines on its performance, reliability and driveability. Just before beginning this conversation, the host reminds the viewers that they are going to hear comments from a person who owns a diesel-powered Scorpio-N.
The Sierra’s diesel engine is a 1.5L, turbocharged four-cylinder unit that makes 116hp and up to 280 Nm of torque (on the automatic variants). It is definitely weaker than the Scorpio-N’s 2.2L mHawk turbocharged diesel that produces 173hp and 400Nm.
This owner, however, says that he enjoys driving the Sierra as much as the other one. ‘It is a solid engine’ he says. Sonu even says that ‘you feel almost like driving a Defender if you’re driving the diesel Sierra.’ This, of course, sounds too tall to be believable. He also goes on to say that the diesel engine of the Sierra feels strong and doesn’t have any lag.
The vlogger then asks him which of the two- Scorpio-N and Sierra- feels more fun to driver. Sonu then diplomatically counters by saying that both are good to drive and there’s no room for comparison. He also adds that the ADAS system, especially the lane assist functions, bother him often. This owner has opted for the six-speed automatic variant. He also says that the engine performs smoothly.

The owner then talks about how the Sierra presents no body roll despite having a ground clearance of 207mm. He also finds the brakes excellent. The Sierra comes with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD). Sonu finds the actual efficiency of this setup to be brilliant.
Later in the video, the owner talks about how impressed he is with the safety levels offered by the SUV. He even demonstrates how the electronic parking brakes (which, interestingly, is available on all variants) would not disengage unless the driver is buckled up. The video later shows the various features of this vehicle. We also get to see the actual boot space and the power operating clamshell-shaped rear hatch-lid.

Let’s start with the negatives first. Sonu says one of the key fobs isn’t working properly. He has got in touch with the dealership to get the same fixed. Secondly, there are no glass holders. Talking of the things that impressed him, the large sunroof tops the list. He also loves the Sierra’s audio system and other features. He concludes by saying that he would highly recommend the Sierra to his friends as well.
