The Toyota Hilux is one of the most popular lifestyle pickup trucks in India. It is also known for its capabilities on rough terrains. Now, as the love for off-roading and adventure travel is increasing in India, a number of people are converting their Hiluxes into camper vehicles. Recently, showing how, despite getting converted into a camper, a Hilux is extremely capable, a video has been shared online.
This video showing the off-roading capabilities of a Toyota Hilux camper pickup truck has been shared on YouTube by Camper Dynamics on their channel. In this short video, we can note that a fully camp-setup-equipped Hilux is taken to a place which has a ton of off-road obstacles to test vehicles, following which the driver of this Hilux starts taking it over these obstacles.

It starts off with the Hilux descending from a steep slope. What's even more impressive about this Hilux camper is that it even climbed the same steep slope in reverse as well. Following this, the video then shows the Hilux taking a banked turn. In this part, it seems like the camper Hilux might flip onto its left side. However, it completed the turn like it was taking a normal turn.

Moving on, the clip then shows the Hilux taking on the massive undulations without any effort. It also crosses a one-sided slope obstacle like it is a piece of cake. Lastly, the video concludes with the Hilux driving over multiple speed breakers. Overall, this particular Toyota Hilux showed off that even with an extremely heavy full-fledged camping setup, its off-roading capabilities have not been compromised.
The name of this particular camper-converted Toyota Hilux is “Basecamp”. It has been built by Camper Dynamics. As per the video shared by the company, the structure for the camper in the rear of the Hilux has been custom-built using aluminium, and it weighs over 200 kgs. In total, the entire camping setup weighs around 550–600 kgs. It has been mentioned by the company that it is the lightest in its segment.

On the outside, this particular camper features a streamlined front design to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve highway efficiency. It also gets a pop-up roof system with custom gas struts. Other notable highlights on the exterior of this camper include amber-colored marker lights, an AC power inlet, a solar power inlet, and a retractable awning with integrated LED lights.

Apart from these, it also gets a double-layer mesh entrance door, hatch windows, heavy-duty wheel arch storage, mounting brackets for fuel cans, traction boards, a shovel, and other overlanding tools. The vehicle also gets a ladder to access the camper. On the inside, it gets light beige walls, wood-style flooring, grey laminated furniture, marine-grade plywood, and overhead utility storage.

Additionally, on the inside, it also comes with dedicated battery housing, electrical system storage, a foldable toilet, multiple power outlets, a queen-size bed, a 3-inch foam mattress, under-bed storage, an 18-litre fresh water tank, a ceiling-mounted fan, and a complete kitchen with a hidden sink, space for a portable stove, and many others. Overall, this camper has everything needed to make an off-road expedition as comfortable as home.
