India is developing at a rapid pace, but as unfortunate as it is, the crime rates are also going up. Thankfully, there are a lot of people who are very vigilant and help in foiling crimes due to their alertness. Recently, a video has become viral online in which a woman who was about to get abducted by a gang in an autorickshaw was saved on the road. In this clip, the woman was seen hanging off the autorickshaw and crying for help.
The video of this courageous act where road users saved a woman from getting abducted has been shared on Instagram by Fem Social on their page. In this short clip, we can note that a woman was hanging out of an autorickshaw on a busy road. She was being held by two men sitting in the rear of the autorickshaw.
We can note that she was screaming at the top of her lungs and was requesting the people on the road to help her. Thankfully, two people on a bike started asking a Maruti Suzuki Ignis and a Maruti Suzuki Fronx driver to try and stop the autorickshaw from escaping. During this time, the woman was constantly trying to get off the autorickshaw but could not due to the high speed.

As per the reports, this particular incident took place a few months ago on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana National Highway, Punjab. What happened was that the woman seen in the video — Meena Kumari, aged 32 — boarded an autorickshaw from Jalandhar Bypass Square. She was travelling towards Phillaur to catch a bus to Nawanshahr. Unfortunately, this ride then turned into a horrific incident.
It was highlighted that at the time Meena Kumari boarded this autorickshaw, there were three men inside it. One of them was at the front driving the autorickshaw, meanwhile, two were sitting in the rear. Initially, the woman sat on the side of the rear seat where the two men acted as if they were normal passengers. What happened next was that one of the men in the rear asked the driver to stop.
This stop was showcased as a urination stop on the side of the road. However, soon after this man came to the auto, he pushed Meena Kumari into the middle, where the other occupant in the rear, along with the first man, tried holding her down. They also attempted to tie her hands with her own dupatta and also snatched her mobile phone by brandishing sharp weapons.
During this time, Meena Kumari showed her courage and refused to give up her mobile and started crying for help. During this struggle, in order to save herself from getting abducted, she hung out of the autorickshaw while it was moving at a decently high speed. She clung to the side for around 500 meters and was shouting to grab the attention of other road users.

Thankfully, this courageous act worked for the woman, as other car drivers and bystanders noted her hanging out of the autorickshaw and screaming. A car driver then started recording the video of this incident, meanwhile, two other car drivers came very close to the autorickshaw to stop it. The auto driver crashed into these cars and damaged them.
However, eventually, the auto went out of control, and it overturned. Following this, two men were nabbed by the people on the road and were handed to the police officers. Meanwhile, the third man managed to escape and has still not been caught.
The three men were part of a gang. Of these, one of them was Mohit alias Many from Subhash Nagar, Ludhiana, who has a criminal past with three cases against him. Another one was Dimple Kakkar alias Bunty, and the last one was Shubham, who managed to escape after the autorickshaw was flipped over.
Ludhiana police recovered three mobile phones from these arrested suspects, and an FIR was filed against them at Salem Tabri Police Station. The charges slapped on these people under the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita include Section 304 (snatching involving sudden or forceful seizure), Section 3(5) (crime committed by multiple individuals with shared intent), and Section 317(2) (receiving or possessing stolen property).
