BMW has shown the X6 in India again, confirming that the coupe-SUV is on its way back after being discontinued here in January 2023. The version displayed is the X6 M60i xDrive, and it is expected to be the one launched in the coming months. The company has not announced an official price yet, but this will clearly sit in the premium performance-SUV bracket and well above the regular X5.

The X6 has always been a niche BMW in India. It is not bought for space or practicality first. It is bought because it looks different from a conventional luxury SUV and still offers serious performance. The M60i is the version that makes that logic easiest to understand.
The heart of the car is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, paired with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Output stands at 530hp and 750Nm, and BMW claims 0 to 100kph in 4.3 seconds. That is enough to put it in genuine high-performance territory, not just quick-for-an-SUV territory.

The X6 M60i is one of the few V8 luxury SUVs expected in this price band. Many rivals now use six-cylinder turbo or electrified setups. That gives the BMW a more old-school appeal for buyers who still want a large-capacity petrol engine, effortless speed and a more muscular character.
The M60i also sits in a sweet spot within BMW’s own hierarchy. It is much stronger and more serious than the standard X6 would be in terms of outright performance, but it stops short of the full X6 M Competition’s harder-edged setup. That makes it more realistic as an everyday luxury-performance SUV rather than a garage trophy.
The India-showcased car gets the latest BMW curved display setup, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch touchscreen. The cabin also gets the newer generation of BMW’s operating system, updated trim choices and the usual M-specific details. Outside, the design changes include revised air intakes, fresh alloy designs and the sharper face that now links it more closely with newer BMW performance models.

The X6’s known trade-off remains unchanged. It looks more dramatic than a traditional SUV because of the sloping roofline, but that shape does eat into rear-seat headroom and some of the easy practicality buyers get in a boxier luxury SUV. Boot space is still decent for the class, but no one buys an X6 because it is the smartest family package in the room.
What buyers are really paying for is street presence, and very unique yet polarizing looks. The X6 still has that long, coupe-SUV silhouette that makes it stand apart from more upright luxury SUVs. In a market where many premium SUVs now look broadly similar, that still counts.

In India, the X6 M60i will sit in a narrow but interesting pocket of the market. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe is the closest obvious rival and currently costs around Rs 1.45 crore. Porsche’s Cayenne range also overlaps, though not every version matches the BMW on body style or engine character. That means BMW’s strongest card may simply be its combination of coupe-SUV shape and V8 performance.
The bigger question will be pricing. Some dealer-level and market estimates have placed the expected tag in the mid-Rs 1.4 crore range, but BMW has not officially confirmed that yet. Wherever it lands, the X6 M60i will not be a volume model. It will be an image and enthusiast product.
That is exactly what the X6 has always been. And in M60i form, it returns with the one thing that makes it most convincing: a big V8 and enough pace to make the styling feel justified.
