This year, JSW Motors announced that it would be entering the Indian market as an independent automobile brand, and as part of this, it tied up with Chinese automaker Chery. After this announcement, we came across several reports of new and interesting Chinese cars filing patents in India. We have covered most of them on our website, and we have now come across a new report stating that Chery has filed a patent in India for the T1TP pickup truck.

Chery has already filed patents for the Jetour T2, iCar V23, Jaecoo models, and many more. The latest one comes in the form of the T1TP concept. As mentioned, this is a concept, which means it can be adapted into different body styles depending on the brand’s plans for the market.
The image filed for the patent shows a full-size SUV in a dual-cab pickup form. This could either come as a Hilux- and V-Cross-segment pickup truck, or Chery might transform it into a full-size SUV that rivals the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the soon-to-be-launched MG Majestor.

The T1TP concept seen here looks very similar to the Chery Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9. From the images, it appears to be a large SUV with a wide front grille, a muscular bumper, and sleek-looking LED or projector headlamps. There are thick black claddings on the lower part of the bumper as well as on the squared wheel arches.

We can also see an air vent on the front fender, and the chunky tyres and alloy wheels give the SUV a dominant look. The patent images released online suggest that the concept is aimed at being a rugged pickup or SUV that can perform well both on and off the road. It also features a roof rack and an anti-roll bar at the rear.
While there is no information about the interiors, we expect them to be premium, as seen in most Chinese cars. It is likely to come with features such as leatherette upholstery, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable seats with ventilation, memory, and possibly even a massage function. The SUV version may also get a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, Level 2 ADAS, ABS, airbags, and several other safety features, along with a sturdy build quality.

The T1TP concept is expected to use Chery’s Super Hybrid Tech (CSH). This setup uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system. While the exact power and torque figures have not been revealed, we expect the SUV to be offered with two electric motors (one at the front and the other at the rear). The engine might primarily act as a range extender, functioning as a generator to power the electric motors. This would ensure high efficiency along with greater flexibility for customers.

At the moment, there is no official confirmation from the brand. JSW Motors might bring this model to the Indian market, if not immediately, then sometime in the future.
Currently, JSW Motors has the Jetour T2, iCar V23, and Jaecoo J5 in the pipeline. All these SUVs are expected to be launched under different names and possibly under the JSW Motors badge in India.
