Stricter emission norms are one of the main reasons why many brands have discontinued diesel engines from their line-ups. These regulations have also led to an increase in the prices of new diesel cars. However, diesel vehicles still make a lot of sense for buyers who prioritize fuel efficiency and torque. Even in 2026, there are brands that continue to offer diesel engines despite facing several challenges. Here is a list of four diesel SUVs that are expected to be launched in the market this year.
Mahindra is a popular SUV manufacturer in India, and it offers diesel engines with almost all of its models. The Scorpio N is one such product that is set to receive an update. As part of the facelift, the SUV is expected to come with a revised front grille, updated bumpers, and possibly tweaked headlamps.

The SUV is also expected to offer an updated cabin with a larger touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from the Thar Roxx and possibly ADAS in more variants. The Scorpio N will continue to be offered with the same petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel version will use the 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged engine, which is available with both manual and automatic transmissions, along with a 4x4 option in select variants.

Along with the Scorpio N, the original Scorpio, or the Scorpio Classic, is also expected to receive a facelift. It is likely to get minor cosmetic changes and will continue to draw power from the detuned 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel engine that generates 130 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a manual transmission only.
Kia launched the new-generation Seltos in the market earlier this year. It is based on a new K3 platform, which makes the SUV larger than the previous-generation model. The new Seltos is better than its predecessor in several aspects, including ride quality. While it is already loaded with features, Kia is said to be working on GTX+ and X-Line (O) variants for the Seltos.

These new variants are expected to be launched around the festive season this year. The upcoming GTX+ trim is likely to offer additional features over the standard GTX variant. Some of the highlights are expected to include a dashcam, head-up display, and an air purifier.
The X-Line (O) variant is also expected to come with the same set of features as the GTX+, along with the exclusive matte grey paint scheme and rugged exterior styling. Both variants are expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Skoda had hinted last year that it plans to reintroduce diesel engines to the Indian market in limited numbers. The company is expected to offer diesel engines in the Kodiaq SUV and the Superb sedan. Both models are likely to be launched as CBUs (Completely Built Units), which means they will probably be more expensive than the regular versions.

The Kodiaq is a seven-seater SUV that comes with several premium and practical features that owners can appreciate in everyday use. It is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engine paired with a DSG transmission. The engine is likely to produce around 190 hp and 360 Nm of torque, with power being sent to all four wheels.
