Road infrastructure in India is being expanded and developed at a very fast pace. We have seen several new expressways and highways being expanded and inaugurated over the last 10 years. While new roads and highways are being developed and inaugurated on one hand, videos surfacing online are raising questions about the overall fit and finish, as well as the quality of the work being carried out. One recent example is the newly inaugurated Ganga Expressway. The road was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on 29 April 2026, and almost a month after the inauguration, a video surfaced on social media showing massive cracks on sections of the expressway.
The video has been shared by Realkhabren on their YouTube channel. In the video, the vlogger, or the person travelling through the newly inaugurated expressway, stops his vehicle and records footage to highlight the condition of the road.
The video shows a section of the road with large cracks. The cracks are so deep that one can actually see the bottom layer, possibly the white topping, and even sand underneath the tarmac coming out. A section of the road has also caved in, and there are cracks visible in that area as well.
The person seen in the video walks towards the cracks and can be heard saying that there is no proper bonding between the tarmac and the layer beneath it. According to him, this is the reason why the tarmac has developed cracks and is falling apart.

To demonstrate the depth of the cracks, he even places his foot into one of them, and it fits comfortably. He also picks up a piece of the broken tarmac to show how easily it breaks apart.
The Ganga Expressway project is 594 km long. The video showing cracks on the expressway quickly went viral on the internet and almost immediately grabbed the attention of the authorities. A repair team was sent to the location, and the damaged section was restored.
The authorities later confirmed that the issue occurred because of slight soil settlement beneath the roadway. Soil underneath a newly constructed road can compress over time, which may lead to issues like these. They also stated that the problem had nothing to do with the quality of the work or the materials used.
The Ganga Expressway remains one of Uttar Pradesh’s major infrastructure projects aimed at improving regional connectivity and reducing travel time between key cities across the state.
The estimated cost of the project is said to be around ₹36,230 crore. Finding potholes and cracks on such a newly constructed stretch of road has raised concerns about the quality of the work carried out. Many social media users have also urged the authorities to conduct a thorough quality inspection.
The Ganga Expressway is a six-lane, access-controlled corridor that connects Meerut and Prayagraj across 12 districts. The new expressway reduces travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from roughly 10-12 hours to around 6-8 hours.
