Putting an end to anticipation, JSW MG Motor India has launched the Majestor with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 40.99 lakh. The SUV is available in two variants- 4x2 AT and 4x4 AT, the latter is priced at Rs 44.99 lakh. MG is already accepting orders for this SUV, for a token amount of Rs 41,000.
In the Indian market, the Majestor competes primarily with the Fortuner, which is currently priced in the range of Rs 35.4 lakh to Rs 50.46 lakh, ex-showroom. This makes the range-topping MG at least Rs 5.5 lakh cheaper than the top-spec Fortuner GR-S.

Despite being more affordable than the top-spec Fortuner, the top-spec Majestor comes with better kit levels. It gets features like a panoramic sunroof and front seats with ventilation and massage functions, which the Fortuner doesn't offer.
In addition to the Fortuner, models like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron R Line and Jeep Meridian also compete with the Majestor with their prices and segment. The Majestor, however, has a clear edge in size and packaging.
In MG India’s portfolio, it succeeds the Gloster as a larger, better-equipped and more capable replacement. It is more expensive than the Gloster which used to have its prices in the range of Rs 38.33 lakh to Rs. 43.17 lakh, ex-showroom. MG will sell the Majestor through its regular dealerships and not the more premium ‘ Select’ network.

The Majestor is described as ‘India’s first D+ segment SUV’ due to its giant proportions. It measures 5,046 mm in length, 2,016 mm in width, and 1,876 mm in height. The SUV also has a wheelbase of around 3 metres (2,950 mm to be precise). These make it larger than a Toyota Land Cruiser! So, the highlight is that you are getting a ladder-frame SUV longer than the Land Cruiser, for less than what you would pay for a top-spec Fortuner. If that interests you, test drive the Majestor today!
This SUV has an imposing stance and a modern design. It comes with LED DRLs, vertically-set three-pod LED headlamps, a large, bold, rectangular (Mozaic Matrix) grille, muscular front bumper with integrated skid plate, 19-inch wheels, connected LED tail lamps, twin-exhaust pipes and more.
Inside, the Majestor feels roomy and more premium than the Fortuner. It comes with a tech-heavy cabin. You get a large 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Carplay and Android Auto, mated to a 12-speaker JBL audio system.

The front seats are powered, ventilated and offer massage functions. There is also a three-zone climate control with rear AC vents. Other features include an 8-inch digital driver’s display, level 2 ADAS, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and more.
The Majestor is underpinned by a rugged ladder-frame chassis. Powering it is the same 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine that used to do duty on the Gloster. On the Majestor, it makes 213 hp and 479 Nm. Mated to it is an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The Majestor excels with its off-road capability. MG has given it three differential locks, a proper four wheel drive (4WD) system, Crawl Control function with selectable speeds, 10-selectable driving modes and more. These electronics ensure maximum traction and control on slippery surfaces.

The carmaker has already demonstrated these abilities multiple times. The Majestor conquered Mount Japfu which, the second highest peak in Nagaland. In another instance, it pulled a 406.4-tonne train over a distance of 300 feet on an operational track in Jammy & Kashmir. In both cases, the SUV was in its stock form.
