Over the last few years, the popularity of 7-seater SUVs in India has gone up very quickly. A lot of bigger families now want practical 7-seater SUVs because they offer a combination of space, road presence, practicality, and premium features. Now, when we talk about SUVs, the one brand which dwarfs every other brand in India is Mahindra Automotive. Recently, it has been noted from the sales data of May 2026 that 4 out of 5 SUVs in the top 10 highest-selling 7-seater segment are Mahindra models.

From the latest sales data, it has been noted that the Mahindra Scorpio, XUV7XO (and XUV700), Bolero, and the newly launched all-electric XEV 9S together sold a combined 37,547 units in May 2026. This means that Mahindra alone accounted for more than 42 percent of all 7-seater vehicles sold in India during the month. Even though the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has managed to remain the highest-selling 7-seater overall, Mahindra has dominated the SUV side of the 7-seater segment.

The Indian 7-seater segment recorded a total of 88,830 units in sales in May 2026. It has managed to register an impressive 24.9 percent year-on-year growth. Both MPVs and SUVs have seen strong demand in the country. This is because a lot of buyers are now prioritizing spacious cabins, family-friendly practicality, long-distance comfort, and stronger road presence.

The top-selling SUV in the entire Mahindra lineup is the Scorpio range, which sold 15,774 units in May 2026. When compared to the 14,401 units sold during the same month last year, its sales have increased by 9.5 percent. As for the market share, the Scorpio alone has managed to capture a massive 17.8 percent. It has to be mentioned that these sales figures combine both the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio-N.
The Scorpio-N, as we all are aware, is for buyers looking for a premium family SUV. It is offered with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine which makes 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. It also gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine that makes up to 172 bhp and 400 Nm. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
It is also offered with Mahindra's 4XPLOR four-wheel-drive system, which makes it one of the most capable off-roaders in its segment. The Scorpio-N also offers buyers a long list of premium features. This SUV comes equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Sony 12-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, an electric sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and forward collision warning.
The Scorpio-N is a 5-star Global NCAP safety-rated vehicle as well. On the other hand, the Scorpio Classic is on sale, and it continues to attract traditional SUV buyers who look for ruggedness and durability. Its iconic design, hood scoop, ladder-frame construction, proven reliability, and strong resale value have kept Mahindra from discontinuing it despite the launch of the Scorpio-N.

The second-best-selling 7-seater SUV in India is the Mahindra XUV 7XO. Mahindra managed to dispatch 9,338 units of the XUV 7XO in May 2026. When compared to the 6,435 units recorded by the XUV700 during the same period last year, this translates into a massive 45.1 percent year-on-year growth.
The XUV 7XO has seen strong demand ever since Mahindra introduced the heavily updated model earlier this year. Between January and May 2026, the SUV has achieved total sales of 46,423 units, and it has averaged more than 9,200 units every month. This represents a 36.4 percent increase over the average monthly sales of the older XUV700 during 2025.
One of the main reasons behind the popularity of the XUV 7XO is the long list of upgrades introduced by Mahindra. The SUV now gets a futuristic triple-screen dashboard layout stretching across the width of the cabin. It also comes equipped with an Infinity panoramic glass roof, ventilated second-row captain seats, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a 540-degree camera system, ambient lighting, and Mahindra's new DaVinci smart suspension technology, which significantly improves ride comfort.
Powering the XUV 7XO are the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. It has been noted that the diesel variants account for nearly 75 percent of customer bookings. This shows that there is still strong demand for diesel-powered SUVs in India.

It may come as a surprise to a lot of people. However, despite being one of the oldest nameplates in Mahindra's lineup, the Bolero still sells like hot cakes. The SUV recorded sales of 8,933 units in May 2026, which is almost identical to the 8,942 units sold during the same month last year.
The Bolero is one of India's most trusted utility vehicles. It is especially popular in rural areas. A lot of farmers, government departments, fleet operators, and large families from semi-rural and rural markets still prefer this SUV. This is due to its long-term durability, affordability, and low running costs. Mahindra currently sells two versions under the Bolero nameplate.
The standard Bolero is for buyers who want a no-nonsense workhorse. Meanwhile, the Bolero Neo offers a more modern and comfortable package. The Bolero Classic comes powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine which makes 75 bhp and 210 Nm. Meanwhile, the Bolero Neo offers a more sophisticated driving experience and comes powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes 98.5 bhp and 260 Nm.

The newest member of Mahindra's 7-seater lineup is the XEV 9S. In May 2026, Mahindra sold 3,502 units and managed to grab a 3.9 percent share of the segment. The XEV 9S is becoming Mahindra's highest-selling electric vehicle. It makes up 55 percent of the company's total EV sales.
One of the biggest reasons behind the popularity of the XEV 9S is that it is India's first mass-market electric 7-seater SUV. It is built on Mahindra's advanced INGLO skateboard platform, and it comes offered with three rows, which makes it a very practical EV SUV.
The SUV is available with 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh battery packs. Depending on the variant, the claimed driving range varies between 521 km and 679 km. Powering this SUV is a rear-mounted electric motor which makes 228 bhp (lower spec), 282 bhp (higher spec), and 380 Nm of torque.
The XEV 9S also offers a very premium cabin experience. It comes with three 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, connected car technology, multi-zone climate control, OTA updates, and boss mode rear seats. It is also a 5-star safety-rated vehicle.
