JSW MG Motor India is clearly going all-out with the upcoming MG Majestor. If this latest stunt is anything to go by, the brand wants to position it as a serious rival to established big SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner.
In a headline-grabbing move, JSW MG Motor India has announced that the Majestor has officially entered the Guinness World Records. The SUV managed to pull a massive 406.4-tonne train over a distance of 300 feet on an operational railway track in Jammu & Kashmir.
What makes this feat even more interesting is that the vehicle used was a completely stock production-spec model. There were no mechanical tweaks, no drivetrain changes and no traction-enhancing modifications. The SUV did all the heavy lifting purely on its own engineering.
The record attempt exceeded the minimum benchmark of 400 tonnes over 100 feet, comfortably setting a new global standard. Independent experts verified that the train movement was solely powered by the SUV, with no external assistance whatsoever.

Powering the Majestor is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that churns out 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm. That is serious output, and MG claims best-in-segment figures here.
The SUV also packs in proper off-road hardware:
Triple differential locks (front, rear and centre)
Advanced 4WD system with multiple terrain modes
Crawl control
219 mm ground clearance
810 mm water wading capability
Add to that Level 2 ADAS and a premium cabin, and the Majestor is clearly aiming to blend hardcore capability with comfort.

MG has confirmed that the Majestor will be launched in India on April 20, and pre-reservations are already open at Rs 41,000. Early buyers will also get a 5-5-5 ownership package, which includes:
5-year unlimited km warranty
5-year roadside assistance
5 labour-free services
This is clearly part of MG’s strategy to sweeten the deal for early adopters.

Let’s get straight to the point. The Majestor’s biggest rival will be the Toyota Fortuner, which has dominated this segment in India for years. And here are 5 things the Majestor does better than the Fortuner.
Here’s how things stack up:
Majestor: 215.5 PS / 478.5 Nm
Fortuner: Up to 204 PS / 500 Nm (diesel)
The MG edges ahead on power, while torque figures are comparable.
Majestor: Triple diff locks, advanced terrain modes
Fortuner: Proven 4x4 system with rear diff lock
MG is clearly pushing harder on paper with more hardware.
Majestor: Level 2 ADAS, more tech-heavy approach
Fortuner: Functional, but relatively basic
MG is targeting buyers who want more tech and a modern cabin.
Fortuner: Bulletproof reputation, strong resale
Majestor: New entrant, yet to prove long-term reliability
This is where Toyota still holds a massive advantage.
The Majestor is shaping up to be one of the most interesting launches of 2026. MG is using bold marketing, big numbers and aggressive positioning to take on the segment leader.
Pulling a 406-tonne train may not matter in everyday driving, but it does send a clear message: the Majestor is being pitched as a tough, no-nonsense SUV with serious capability.
The real test, however, begins after April 20th. That’s when we find out if Indian buyers are ready to move away from the Fortuner’s rock-solid legacy and give this new challenger a shot.
