The popularity of electric vehicles in India is on the rise, and a number of automakers are now offering EVs. Now, for most companies, EVs make up a small part of total sales volumes. However, there is this one brand which sells more EVs than ICE cars. You might have guessed the brand, and it is none other than JSW MG Motor India. You may be surprised to know that 9 out of 10 cars which MG sells are electric cars, despite it having multiple ICE models in its lineup.

In FY2026, JSW MG Motor India sold a total of around 72,925 passenger vehicles in the country. Out of these, a massive 62,591 units were electric vehicles. What this essentially means is that around 85.8 percent of MG’s total sales came from EVs. Now, when we compare the same statistic with other automakers, Tata Motors has an EV contribution of around 14 percent.
Meanwhile, Mahindra Automotive stands at roughly 8 percent. This means that MG is by far the most EV-focused automaker in India today. The EV dominance is not just visible in yearly numbers but also in monthly sales performance. In February of this year, the total MG sales stood at 3,642 units. Out of this, around 73 percent were EVs.

Coming to the sales of March 2026, where MG saw a massive jump in sales, its retail sales increased to 5,623 units and its wholesale dispatches reached 6,528 units. Its total growth stood at 54.4 percent month-on-month and 19 percent year-on-year. This increase has been majorly contributed by the strong EV demand.
The Windsor EV is the biggest reason behind MG’s EV dominance. This model has become the backbone of the brand’s entire sales strategy in India. When we look at the sales data of the Windsor EV in FY2026, from April 2025 till March 2026, we can note that the demand for this SUV has stayed consistent for the most part but has also increased in a few months.

In March 2025, its sales were 3,641 units. Then, in April 2025, it was 3,660 units; May 2025 - 3,939 units; June 2025 - 3,799 units; July 2025 - 4,308 units; August 2025 - 4,511 units. During this period, the Windsor EV showed steady and consistent growth, following which its peak phase came between September and October 2025 (festive season).
In September 2025, its sales were 4,741 units, and in October 2025, they were 4,445 units. After this, the sales reduced a bit in November 2025 - 4,025 units; December 2025 - 3,596 units; and January 2026 - 2,567 units (one of the slowest months in terms of sales). The sales then slightly increased in February 2026 to 2,599 units, and in March 2026, it reached 4,530 units.
Over the 12-month period, the Windsor EV sold around 44,352 units. This means it alone contributed to around 61 percent of MG’s total sales. Apart from the Windsor EV, the smallest electric car sold by the company, the MG Comet EV, saw an impressive 140 percent year-on-year growth in February, with 699 units sold.

As for the MG ZS EV, its sales have been slowly going down, as in January 2026, 1,093 units were sold, and in February 2026, only 344 units were sold. In March, sales of the MG ZS EV stood at 411 units. It has been reported that the company will soon replace the ZS EV with the S5 EV.
Even though it sells more EVs than ICE cars, MG still offers petrol and diesel vehicles like the Hector, Majestor, and Astor in India. Unfortunately, the sales of these vehicles are not very strong, and in the months when they are strong, it is due to heavy discounts and offers provided by the brand.

One of the biggest reasons behind MG’s success is its early entry into the EV segment. Models like the ZS EV helped the brand in building strong recognition, following which the launch of the Windsor EV helped the brand a lot. It offers a good balance of price, range, and practicality, which makes it attractive for first-time EV buyers.

Additionally, MG has been offering aggressive discounts ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1.45 lakh. This has made its cars more appealing in a price-sensitive market like India. The company has also focused heavily on metro cities, where EV adoption is higher.
Apart from these, MG is also planning to launch more EVs in India, namely the MG S5 EV, Binguo EV-based hatchback, MG 520 EV, and MG IM6 electric SUV.
