JSW Group owned MG Motor India is currently enjoying the success of the Windsor EV in India. And to make sure that this momentum continues, the company is currently gearing up to introduce the replacements for its mid-size SUVs, MG ZS EV and Astor, in India. It has been reported that the ZS EV and Astor replacement models will be launched in 2027.

As per the reports, the upcoming ZS EV and Astor replacements will be based on the SIGMA architecture. This platform has been developed by MG’s parent company, SAIC, and SIGMA stands for SAIC Intelligent Global Modular Architecture. It has been designed to support multiple drivetrain options such as ICE, EV, strong hybrids, and plug-in hybrids.
Currently, this platform underpins the MG One in the international markets. The ZS EV and Astor replacements will be making their debut in India by 2027. Presently, the exact design or any concept of how these replacement models will look has not been shared online. However, they are expected to boast a unique “top hat” design which will suit the Indian market.

Prior to this report, it was highlighted that the MG ZS EV in India will be replaced by the MG S5 EV. Presently, there are some reports which have highlighted that the company could still be launching the S5 EV in India this year and later in 2027, it may launch the new SUV based on the SIGMA architecture.
The MG S5 EV is currently one of the most popular EV offerings from the brand internationally. It is offered with two battery pack options of 49 kWh and 64 kWh. If this model makes it to India, it will most likely get the bigger 64 kWh battery pack variant which offers an estimated range of around 500 km.

In terms of the dimensions, the MG S5 measures 4,476 mm in length, 1,849 mm in width, and 1,621 mm in height. As for the wheelbase, it is 2,730 mm. Presently, the wheelbase offered by the MG ZS EV is 2,585 mm, which is a lot smaller than the S5 EV.
As for the styling of the MG S5, it boasts a sharp exterior design consisting of a split front grille design, aggressive LED headlights and DRLs, and an overall aerodynamic body profile. On the inside, it comes loaded with features including a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument gauge, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and many others.

In addition to the MG ZS EV and Astor replacements, the company this year around October will be launching its flagship electric SUV, the MG IM6 electric SUV. This SUV will be sold via the MG Select dealership, which currently sells the Cyberster electric sportscar and the M9 premium electric MPV.

Apart from this SUV, MG India is working on the development of a new SUV which will be rivalling the likes of Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Safari, along with others. This new SUV’s main highlight will be that it will be India's first mass market plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
