Renault recently launched the Duster SUV in the Indian market. The SUV has already reached dealerships across the country, and official deliveries are set to begin in April. All details regarding the variants, engine, and gearbox are available online. Renault has now released the official fuel efficiency figures for the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine offered with the Duster.
The 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine offered with the Renault Duster is not only powerful but efficient as well. As per ARAI certification, the Renault Duster delivers an impressive 18.45 kmpl in the DCT variant and 17.75 kmpl with the 6-speed manual transmission. The Renault Duster is currently one of the most powerful SUVs in this segment. The 1.3-litre turbo engine generates 163 PS and 280 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed wet clutch DCT gearbox.

Speaking on the development, Dr. V. Vikraman, Chief of Renault Engineering, Renault Group India, said, “The ARAI-certified figures highlight the strength of our technology and our commitment to delivering superior all-round value. The new Renault Duster’s Turbo 160 engine integrates advanced solutions such as low-friction coatings and high-pressure fuel injection to optimise combustion and efficiency. Paired with Renault’s latest DCT automatic transmission, which ensures fast and seamless gear shifts, the powertrain delivers an excellent balance of performance and fuel efficiency while remaining strong and responsive on the road.”
Renault claims that the new Duster has been engineered for Indian driving conditions, combining strong performance with best-in-class ride and handling. The 18.45 kmpl efficiency figure is quite impressive when compared with some of its recently launched rivals like the Tata Sierra. It was recently revealed that the Sierra’s turbo petrol engine offers a claimed efficiency of 13.5 kmpl. Other rivals like the Hyundai Creta turbo petrol offer an ARAI efficiency of 18.4 kmpl, while the Kia Seltos with the same engine offers around 17.9 kmpl.

Renault Duster is a name that holds strong recall value in the Indian market. That is one of the major reasons why Renault decided to relaunch the Duster as part of its new strategy. It is a brand that many Indians can relate to, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the older-generation Duster was one of the SUVs that kick-started the compact SUV trend in our market.
In its new avatar, the SUV continues to offer a rugged, SUV-like exterior design along with neatly integrated modern touches. The new Duster offers several features that have now become common in this segment, including a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, leatherette upholstery, a large floating touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and more.

Due to stricter emission norms, Renault has completely discontinued diesel engines. The new Duster comes with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is likely to generate 100 PS and 180 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available in lower variants and comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox only.
The other option is the segment’s most powerful 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, which is offered with both manual and DCT gearbox options. At the moment, Renault has only revealed prices for the 1.3-litre turbo petrol variants. We will have to wait and see whether the figures for the smaller petrol engine will be revealed later.
The price for the Renault Duster currently starts at Rs 10.49 lakh, ex-showroom, and goes all the way up to Rs 18.69 lakh, ex-showroom.
