The Superb, Skoda’s biggest sedan needs no introduction in India. The carmaker used to sell the third-generation Superb here till 2023. It enjoys strong brand recall here. Skoda is now preparing to bring the Superb back to the Indian shores. Upon its return, Skoda’s biggest sedan will likely have two distinct engine options- 2.0L turbocharged petrol and 2.0L diesel. While specifics of the same haven’t been confirmed officially yet, we know that the Superb is coming back.

Let’s be frank- the Superb is more likely to make its India return as a diesel model. We have two big reasons to back this belief. One, Skoda showcased the fourth-generation Superb at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo with a diesel engine.
Secondly, a Superb was seen in Pune with Pimpri Chinchwad RTO number plates. That car had no camouflage on it. The spied car also had a 4x4 badge on its boot, indicating the presence of All Wheel Drive technology. It was the top-spec L&K trim, powered by a diesel engine.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) has been expanding its range of premium and sports offerings lately. Skoda launched the Octavia RS in India in 2025. It also has the new Kodiaq on sale now.

The fourth-generation is more stylish than its predecessor and is based on the carmaker’s ‘Modern Solid’ design philosophy. It has sharper body lines. Overall, the aerodynamics have improved by 10-15 percent.
Inside, the new Superb feels modern and upmarket. The fourth-generation Superb comes with features like a free-standing 13-inch infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster and several other features. The cabin will have generous use of premium leather upholstery, soft-touch materials, and high-quality trims.

The sedan will be 43mm longer than its predecessor and will come with a 645-litre boot. The rear seat is expected to be very comfortable.
The diesel-powered Superb will house a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine under its hood, mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. This setup will make around 190hp and 400 Nm.

The 4x4 badge on the boot indicates that the sedan will get All Wheel Drive technology as well. This will give it a significant improvement in acceleration and high-speed manners. Rumour also has it that Skoda would also offer a front-wheel-drive diesel variant with the same engine in a lower state of tune (producing 148hp)
Another powertrain option likely to be brought to India is the 2.0-litre turbo petrol. Mated to the 7-speed DSG transmission, it is likely to produce 204hp. The car will be able to do the 0-100 kph sprint in 7.4 seconds and will have a 232 km/h top speed.

Skoda had previously reintroduced the previous-generation Superb as a CBU import. The fourth-generation is also expected to take a similar route. The Superb is now made at VW Group’s plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. This facility cannot build CKD (completely knocked down) kits of the car. And in India, local assembly will not be cost effective either. The new-generation Superb is thus expected to come as CBU imports, although with India-specific recalibration of ADAS suite and other small tweaks.
The Superb’s return is already exciting Skoda fans and diesel loyalists alike. Afterall, Skoda’s diesel engine had a good reputation back in the day, for being strong and reliable. That also means that expectations are high upon the diesel Superb’s return.
