2026 has been the year when we saw announcements of many new brands entering the Indian market. Many of them have already filed design patents in India too. We have now come across a new set of patent images of a pick up truck filed by an American start up named Slate. They have filed patent images of their electric pick up truck.

Slate Auto is an American startup company that is developing electric vehicles. The brand was founded back in 2022 and is backed by the likes of Jeff Bezos of Amazon. They have filed a design patent for the pick up truck in India. It is not clear whether the brand is officially planning to enter Indian market or not as there has not been any official announcements about the same.
What makes Slate Auto different from other brands in the market is the modularity or the configuration options that is available from the factory. The Slate is actually the pick up version and customers can choose between multiple body configurations.

In fact the company is trying to offer only what the customer wants. Customers can actually configure their vehicle as per their need including the exterior body style, features, interior materials, amount of tech, speaker preferences, fog light options, and even the overall colour. Customer will have to only pay for what he opts. The company wants to simply promote built to order products rather than mass produced ones.

It is said that the company has also filed a patent for the fast back SUV version which is currently being known by the name Slate Reign Purple. The name is nothing but the colour in which the SUV is offered. The pick up is converted into an SUV using the conversion kit that slate will offer to the customer.

Slate is offering coupe like SUV style and also a boxy Defender inspired styling. We also saw Ford Bronco inspired pick up versions on the website too. The official unveil of the slate truck happened last year. Slate is all set to start accepting pre-bookings for the EVs from June 24, 2026 and the official deliveries for the same are expected to commence by the end of this year.

Interested buyers can book one of these SUVs by making a payment of USD 50. The whole reason behind the curiosity behind this brand is also the pricing. They are aiming to offer affordable electric vehicles in the market that adapts to your life.

The Slate EV is powered by a 201 bhp electric motor powering the rear wheels. The SUV is expected to come with two battery pack options. One of them will offer a driving range of around 241 km and the other would offer around 382 km. The SUV would also support both AC home charging and also supports DC fast charging speeds of up to 120 kW. As mentioned above, the company has filed a patent for the design in India but it is still not clear whether the brand has any intentions to come to our market or not.
