Toyota Kirloskar Motor is currently witnessing a massive internal shift in its sales hierarchy. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder has successfully outsold the brand's long-standing champion, the Innova, for the second time within just four months. This specific milestone highlights the rapidly expanding consumer preference for compact midsize SUVs over traditional multi-purpose vehicles. The Hyryder first achieved this feat in October 2025, and it has repeated the act in February 2026, marking a significant change in the automaker's volume drivers.

In February 2026, the Hyryder registered strong wholesales of 9,359 units, representing a massive 117 percent year-on-year growth compared to the 4,314 units sold in the same month last year.

In contrast, the Innova nameplate, which combines sales of both the newer Hycross and the older Crysta models, recorded 8,703 unit sales. This specific performance made the midsize SUV the absolute best-selling Toyota vehicle last month, capturing a 30 percent share of the brand's total domestic volume.
Despite the Hyryder's recent monthly victories, the Innova still firmly holds onto its crown when looking at the broader annual picture. For the current financial year spanning April 2025 to February 2026, combined sales of the Innova stand at 102,030 units, growing 5 percent year-on-year. The premium Hycross variant accounts for roughly 65 percent of these total sales.
During the exact same 11-month period, the Hyryder recorded cumulative sales of 89,684 units. While this represents a stellar 63 percent year-on-year growth for the SUV, it still trails the Innova by 12,346 units. This substantial buffer practically guarantees that the Innova will retain its position as Toyota’s number one selling vehicle when the final figures for the financial year 2026 are tallied at the end of March. However, the rapidly closing gap between the two models suggests a tighter race for the top spot next year.
The Hyryder is currently tracking towards a massive individual milestone. Having already sold 89,684 units this financial year, the SUV needs to dispatch just 10,316 more units in March to cross the 100,000 sales mark within a single fiscal year. This would be a first for the model since its launch in late 2022.

The SUV’s sustained popularity is heavily driven by its diverse powertrain options. The vehicle is currently available across 13 different variants, offering a choice between standard petrol, factory-fitted CNG, and a highly efficient strong-hybrid setup.
The strong-hybrid variant, specifically, acts as a massive draw for buyers looking to maximize fuel efficiency in the absence of a diesel engine, offering a claimed mileage of nearly 28 kilometres per litre. The recent introduction of an official 'Tech Package' accessory kit in January, which added highly requested features for a premium of Rs 29,499, also helped accelerate showroom footfalls in February.
Fueled by the combined strength of the Innova and the Hyryder, Toyota is heading towards its highest-ever annual sales. The automaker has already dispatched 331,778 passenger vehicles in the first 11 months of FY2026. This figure comfortably shatters its previous best of 309,230 units, which was recorded in the last financial year.
The brand's sales momentum received a major boost from recent tax-fueled price reductions that made its vehicles more accessible. The company recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in October 2025, hitting over 40,000 units, and has consistently maintained a run rate of over 30,000 units per month since then. If this steady retail momentum continues through March, the automaker is well on track to close the financial year with a record total of 360,000 vehicles sold, effectively doubling its sales volume in just three years.
