
Starting this year, the way India sees strong hybrid cars will be changing. We are saying this because this year and in the coming years, buyers will get introduced to plug-in hybrid cars. These range-extender hybrids will revolutionize the Indian automotive market. Now, if you are someone who is interested in knowing about these revolutionary upcoming strong hybrid plug-in hybrid cars, then you have come to the right spot.

The first and the most important upcoming plug-in hybrid vehicle in India is the BYD Seal U. This SUV will become the first model in the country to feature BYD's proprietary DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid EV technology. It is expected to be launched by the end of 2026 and could be priced between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
The biggest highlight of the Seal U is its highly efficient hybrid powertrain, which has already been showcased by the company this month. It will come equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, two electric motors, and an 18.3 kWh Blade battery pack. BYD claims that this plug-in hybrid setup offers a combined driving range of over 1,200 km. It has stated that it consumes just 4.8 litres of fuel per 100 km.
What makes it even more interesting is that this SUV can be driven up to 200 km in EV-only mode under ideal conditions. Currently, the model sold in the international markets produces up to 323 bhp and 550 Nm of torque. As for the feature highlights, it will include a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, ADAS, a 360-degree camera, an Infinity premium sound system, vegan leather upholstery, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

JSW Group will be entering the Indian automotive market with its all-new company, JSW Motors. And one of the first models it plans on launching is the rugged Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV. The company is expected to launch this model around Diwali 2026. As for the pricing, it is expected to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) and will take on the Toyota Fortuner, MG Majestor, and others.
Once again, the main highlight of the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid will be its powertrain. It will come offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which will be paired with a dual-motor electric setup. When combined, this powertrain is expected to produce 381 bhp and 691 Nm of torque. The SUV will also get a dedicated four-wheel-drive system, which will make it capable both on and off the road.
Powering the electric side of the powertrain will be a 26.7 kWh battery pack. The SUV is expected to offer an electric-only range of around 100-139 km. When combined with a full tank of petrol, the total driving range is expected to be over 1,000 km.
As for the design, it will look similar to the Land Rover Defender and the Ford Bronco, with its rugged, boxy, and macho styling. As for the features, the Jetour T2 will come loaded with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by a Snapdragon 8155 processor, wireless connectivity, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and Level-2 ADAS, along with many others.

Apart from JSW Motors, JSW Group-owned MG Motor India is also preparing to enter the plug-in hybrid SUV segment with the upcoming MG Starlight 560. This SUV has already been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads, and it is expected to be launched around the festive season later this year. Most likely, it will be priced in the range of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 35 lakh and will take on the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, and others.
The upcoming MG Starlight 560 is based on the Wuling Starlight 560, which is sold in China and other markets. This SUV will be offered with a seven-seat configuration in India and measure around 4,745 mm in length and offer a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. Internationally, the Starlight 560 PHEV comes equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 20.5 kWh battery pack.
This setup produces between 194 bhp and 197 bhp, along with 230 Nm of torque, depending upon the variant. One of its main highlights will be its 100 km electric-only range and its combined range of 1,100 km with a full tank of petrol. The Starlight 560 will also boast a premium cabin with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, OTA updates, automatic climate control, and premium leatherette upholstery.

Last on this list is the most premium plug-in hybrid SUV, which will be launched in India. We are talking about the BYD Leopard 8. The company has already patented its design in India. It is believed that this SUV could be in the price range of Rs 70 lakh and Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).
The Leopard 8 will be a massive body-on-frame SUV, and it will measure 5,195 mm in length and boast a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. In terms of size, it will be very close to the Land Rover Defender 110. Powering this SUV will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which will come paired with dual electric motors and a large 36.8 kWh battery pack.
Its combined power output will be a staggering 748 bhp and 760 Nm of torque. And despite its size, it will be able to perform a sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 4.8 seconds. The SUV will also offer an electric-only range of around 100 km and a total claimed driving range of 1,200 km.
As for the features, its main highlights will include a triple-screen dashboard setup, an 18-speaker premium audio system, ambient lighting, dual wireless chargers, auto park assist, and advanced Huawei-developed ADAS technology.
