Volkswagen recently unveiled the electric version of their popular hatchback, Polo, internationally. Videos of the Volkswagen ID Polo have been circulating online over the last couple of days. Pre-bookings for the ID Polo have already started. It has been launched at a starting price of 25,000 euros. Volkswagen has now released an official video of the ID Polo, showing what the first-ever electric iteration of the popular Polo offers.
The video shared by Volkswagen shows the exterior design, interior space, and features. The Volkswagen ID Polo is based on the MEB+ platform. In terms of exterior design, Volkswagen has made sure that the ID Polo doesn’t look like a completely different car or an appliance from the outside. Its design is actually inspired by the original Polo, which is a loved car worldwide.
In terms of dimensions, the ID Polo measures 4,053 mm in length, 1,816 mm in width, and 1,530 mm in height. It also has a 2,600 mm wheelbase. At the front, the ID Polo comes with sleek-looking LED headlamps, which are designed to resemble eyelids. There is a connecting LED bar at the front that meets the illuminated Volkswagen logo on the grille.

As this is an EV, Volkswagen has designed the front bumper in a neat manner, and we see a lower air dam. As we move to the side, you start noticing the similarities even more. We see flared wheel arches, 19-inch aero alloy wheels, pull-type door handles, and rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar. In fact, the C-pillar design is inspired by the original Golf.
At the rear, there are sleek-looking all-LED tail lamp units. The tail lamps are designed in such a manner that they resemble a whisky glass. There is an integrated roof spoiler and a connecting LED bar with an illuminated logo here as well. The rear bumper gets a clean design with air curtains and a diffuser-like element at the bottom.
In the cabin, the ID Polo comes with a minimalistic-looking interior. However, it is well equipped, and the best part is that, unlike many modern-day EVs, Volkswagen is actually offering physical buttons for most controls. On the dashboard, there is a 13-inch freestanding infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 10-inch driver display is also offered with the EV. Apart from this, Volkswagen is offering a floating centre console, a wireless charging pad, a rotary knob for media controls, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (IRVM), Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, and more.
It also gets a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a fixed panoramic glass roof, 12-way powered front seats with massage and memory functions, 441 litres of boot space, Park Assist Pro, intelligent headlights, and more.
The ID Polo is offered with 37 kWh and 52 kWh NMC battery packs. The smaller battery pack generates 116 PS to 135 PS and produces 290 Nm of torque. It offers a claimed range of 329 km.

The bigger battery version generates 211 PS to 226 PS and offers a claimed range of 454 km. The smaller battery version supports DC fast charging of up to 90 kW, while the bigger version supports up to 105 kW.
Polo was a model that popularised the Volkswagen brand among Indians. It was discontinued from the market a couple of years ago due to multiple reasons. The recently launched ID Polo is currently not being considered for India, as it would be extremely expensive.
However, if Volkswagen is considering entering the electric segment in India, the ID Polo would be a great place to start, as the Polo already has a huge fanbase and strong recall value in our market. If Volkswagen can assemble or sell the ID Polo in India at an affordable price, it might actually do well for the brand.
